I upgraded to windows 10 and all was great. I had no issues upgrading. But I did notice that the sound has become muffled and not the same as windows 8. If I open up the playback devices, it never shows my headphones in the options.
I have also troubleshooted the sound problems and it cant find anything. Someone please help, I cannot enjoy any music or movies now. This thread is locked.

Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Same issue muffled sounds, especially voice after upgrade to Windows Using Realtek High Definition Audio. Worked fine in Win 8. For more detail, this is how I got it back to work with no new drivers. If it's not working, there might be another option, suggested by other users on this forum:. A third option, suggested by other users, is to roll back to drivers for Windows Vista see above :. April 14, Keep in touch and stay productive with Teams and Officeeven when you're working remotely.

New pc, headset audio is "muffled" hard to explain, help please. Hey, so i build my new pc yesterday and everything is fine bar the headset audio, it sounds muffled, not very clear, hard to explain.
Speakers are fine and I did try plugging in the headphone jacket its a jacket headset at the back of the mobo but same result. Headset works fine on my old pc and seeing as speakers work fine in both jackets my mind is now blown. Z87 asus pro, antec v3 case win 7 64bit, latest audio drivers from asus, and i did try swapping the audio type in the bios. Last edited by Nuckels; at PM. Reply With Quote. Did you turn on some virtual 3d-sound system?
They sometimes make things sound muffled. Are there drivers to the headset?
Also check if the cords arent switched backwards. Last edited by jadenprince; at PM. Originally Posted by shnuggle.

There's a difference between crappy integrated audio and broken hardware Ended up splitting the audio so that my headset is only used for VoIP and speakers for everything else, not an ideal solution but good enough.

Briarned likes this. GalmJan 17, Galm likes this. I had that just happen to me. I can't believe they ship laptops that sound like that out of the box. I seriously thought the speakers were blown. Additional note: in my case the latest Nahimic would not install with the audio driver the laptop came with. So I had to upgrade the audio driver first, then install the latest Nahimic.
BriarnedJan 18, If you have Windows 10 and have problems installing drivers in my case it kept reinstalling the preinstalled driversyou'll have to disable a few settings. Works well with the latest Nahemic. You must log in or sign up to reply here. Show Ignored Content. Share This Page Tweet. No, create an account now.If you have a Windows 7 machine with a Realtek sound chipset or drivers, then you may have run into a problem where you randomly hear crackling or popping or static while playing audio through your speakers or even headsets.
I realized after doing some research that this is a pretty tricky problem to fix and it can be caused by all kinds of issues from latency to drivers to other hardware, etc. If you find a different solution that works for you, please post a comment and let us know.
Of course, the first thing to try and do in these situations is update the drivers. In the case of audio crackling and popping, you should update the BIOS drivers, video drivers and sound card drivers. For Realtek, make sure you go to their site and download the latest driver directly from there. If your computer has a line in or digital audio in port, you may want to disable it if you are no longer using it.
If you enabled it for some reason, such as for recording audio from a TV or some other device, then if you forgot to disable it, it could cause the static while playing audio. Depending on your system, there could be a high latency affecting performance and thereby causing serious audio problems. It will help you figure out what is causing the latency, such as a network adapter. On the download page, they also have an entire explanation of how to use the program to figure out which device is causing the latency.
Basically, you want to see green bars like above and nothing in the red area up top. Getting rid of these will fix the crackling problem. Any other type of real-time software should be disabled. Then check to see if the static is gone.
As strange as it may sound, you could have your speakers or headphones plugged into the wrong jack on your computer. On lots of machines you have the normal headphone jack, but you may also have some other jacks like HD Audio or something else. Find the different ports and try plugging your speakers into the different ones and see if the issue goes away. It has solved the problem for a lot of people. This is especially true if you have a digital audio plug on the back of your PC.
Try the normal analog in that case. Some users have reported that disconnecting their mouse and keyboard from the PC fixed the audio popping problem. It could be because some ports on the computer are only for PS2 mice and keyboards, so a USB keyboard or mouse will cause problems. Not sure exactly of the details, but give it a shot. Hopefully, you have figured out something so far to fix your audio problem!
It only takes a minute to sign up. After upgrading, the sound quality of Realtek HD Audio has become very bad and extremely low. There is no bass and the sound is distorted and screeching. I have tried updating the Realtek driver but that didn't change anything. Find the properties for your output device, click on the Dolby tab, then click on the power button to turn it off.
You can even do it as you're listening to something to tell the difference. Not sure what effect Dolby was going for, but it makes everything sound like elevator music. On my version, the tab shows as "DTS". I had major issues playing games like World of Warcraft, I would alt - tab and the sound goes all jerky and distorted like a broken robot. Only thing that fixed it was new Realtek drivers but not ones on the Realtek website, the drivers listed at Softpedia. Installed these as the catalog ones and Realteks are dated June Softpedia have later version from March I also had very poor sound quality after upgrading my PC to Windows I found a solution after reading many posts on different forums and it had nothing to do with the driver but with power options.
The default setting of Power Options is "Balanced", changing it to "High performance" improved immediately the bad sound quality of Control Panel-Power Options - check High Performance.
I hope it will work for many of you as well. I tried every available driver, including Microsoft HD Audio. For me it was a failing stick of RAM. Being ECC it got over the errors, but it introduced caching delays and hence the bad sound. I had the same problem with my creative sound.
I fixed it by going to the devicemanager, right click my soundcard, choose uninstall, then install the proper drivers through the files I downloaded.
